Little League Baseball Michigan District 6
District 6 Challenger Baseball
The Challenger Division was established in 1989 as a separate division of Little League Baseball to enable boys and girls with physical and mental disabilities, ages 5-18 or the completion of high school, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. Teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age, and can include as many as 15-20 players. The value of the Challenger Division is found in the proven therapeutic and socialization benefits of participating in sports, the strengthening of participants' self-esteem, the opportunities to mainstream into other divisions of play, and the disciplines of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play which are hallmarks of the Little League program. The philosophy of the Challenger Division is to provide the framework so that every Little League program may offer a structured, athletic activity for all youth in the community.
The Challenger Field represents a dream come true for mentally and physically challenged children in our community. A Little League baseball field that is made just for their specialized needs - smooth walkways, shaded areas, and a rubberized base path on the playing field so wheelchairs and walkers can easily maneuver. A baseball field that is exclusively their own "Field of Dreams".
The
Clinton Valley Little League Challenger Baseball Field is located in Neil Reid Park, on Harper Road just north of Metro Parkway (16 Mile).
